Graphing Tools

Finding out the comparisons on the National Average for 4th grade in math, science, and reading.

Using Kids Zone to make the graphs.

Finding the information on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

Movie Maker

I used a previous powerpoint assignment in this class: Cyberbullying for my movie maker.

Now once again I am having trouble uploading my movie onto my blog. I can get it on here but it is taking a long time to upload the video.

Once I downloaded the movie maker application and applied my powerpoint presentation
this was an easy activity to do. Everything was self explantory. If I wanted to make a movie in the future, I would definetly use this application.

Wordle

This is a very creative tool! Students would love to use this program. I used words for physcial education activities, what we can do in the gym. Variety of colors, shapes that is can be made into and its all under a one button, how convenient.

Open Letters to Educators

Times have changed drastically from the time I started college until now. After watching the video with Dan, he wants educators to get enthused about technology. We want to get our students pumped up about education. Lectures, out with the old, Technology, in with the new! No one wants to sit in class and listen to a boring lecture for about 40 minutes about nothing. Getting up to speed with technology will get our students more involved. Technology will always be changing and will be the future. I have learned a lot from this technology class and hopefully use the applications in my classrooms to help my students. Like Dan says, "the world is always changing, if you don't do something about it, it will change without you." Let's get motivated and do something about it.

Google Forms

This application was fun to work with. Very easy to follow directions, and the tutorial was very helpful. It allows you to make any type of question you would like. I chose a Volleyball Test with ten questions. I thought I would try another lesson besides the Food Guide Pyramid this time, yea!!!

Jeopardy

I thought this activity was a lot fun. The only hard part about it was thinking of the questions. Of course, I chose food as my title, considering I've done the food guide pyramid throughout all my
blogs.

PhotoStory PSA

Well at first I was panicking about this assignment because I didn't know where to find the pictures for the video. But after reading it over and over again, it finally clicked. Once I got started in PhotoStory and rearranging my pictures, I actually got the hang of it and really enjoyed this project. Kind of scary talking in the microphone at first but I didn't mind after it a while. I wanted complete silence while doing the narrating part and thought maybe the phone would ring, my dog would've started barking, who knows, but it worked out. I really enjoyed working with PhotoStory! After watching the tuturioral about how to save in a different file also helped. Plus I learned about CyberBullying, didn't realize how much information there was about it and how much of it goes on with our kids. A very informative lesson.

Prezi

Once again I used the food guide pyramid for my lesson. If my kids don't learn about the
food guide pryamid by now, then I don't know what to tell them. Since I have used this presentation several times now. Prezi was easy to use once I got started. All the tools were easy to access and put to good use in my presentation.

The difference between the tools is on Prezi they use a wheel tool called a "zebra". This lets you place the wheel on your text to enlarge, move, and turn your text around. I think the advantage on Powerpoint is it has more tools to work with than Prezi. But Prezi is simple and to the point without all the gadgets to work with. Depending on what you need to teach your lessons will help you decide which one you need to work with, Prezi or Powerpoint.

The ISTE that best fits the Prezi assignment is: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
model an dfacilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, anaylzye, and evalute, and use information.
Design and Develop Digital-Age Learing Experiences

Google Draw Tool

I went through Mozilla Firefox to get this program to work. Had no problems after that. This tool was easy to work with and had a lot of choices to pick from. I used the different shapes to create my graphic and using the arrow and line tools and the text box to incorporate text into my graphic. Found out you can change colors in the text and fill in colors in the shapes too. I used Jing to embed my graph. I am so excited I figured that out and it actually worked.

Glogster

Just for starters I set up my Glogster account and played around and made a poster. This has a lot of neat ideas to incorporate into your work. Its actually a lot of fun. I am working on the video and audio part and will update my glogster with that next. I would like to add friends to my Glog but don't know anyone's screen names. If you could send me some I will add you. Thanks!
(mine is sbarn03) I don't want to accept someone that's not from our class.

I finally set up my video: a 10 minute jump rope cardio workout. Looks like a lot of fun.
Great exercise for only 10 minutes out of your day.

Learning Outcomes:

1. What is a glog? It is a social network that allows users to create free interactive posters, or glogs. The glog is short for graphical blog, is an interactive multimedia image. It looks like a poster, but readers can interact with the content.

2. How might you use a glog in your class?
The user inserts texts, images, photos and audio (mp3), video and special effects and other elements into their glogs to generate a multimedia online creation. It is based on flash elements. They can be shared by people.

3.. What ISTE NETS T does the use of Glogster most likely correspond with in your opinion?

#1 Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students'
conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.

4. What is the problem (if any) with this program?
There doesn't seem to be a problem. This program seems to be a fast growing one. And in the near future they are going to produce an enhanced version of Glogster EDU 2.0. Over 150.000 teachers use this method now.

Self Portrait

shell by shelly: "Picassohead"

Here is an image of my self portrait. Very plain I know, I am not very creative.

Pablo Picasso images are very edgey. Using the tools given you can create many styles. Use your imagination to create some really funky images. Looking through the gallery there are a lot of creative work and vivid imaginations. I went back and embedded my portrait using Jing. I believe Jing is a very useful tool.

Learning Styles Test

Results of learning styles test were completely different from what I chose. My results were:
Visual 1
Aural 2
Read/Write 8
Kinesthetic 5

I have a mild read/write learning preference. Here is a more depth description of verbal learning styles. Prefer using words, both in speech an writing.

Learning Outcomes:

1. What are the learning styles?
Visual, Aural, Verbal, Physical, Logical, Social and Solitary

2. How can awareness of learning styles improve performance in a learning environment?
If knowing how a student learns better through one style or another will help the teacher guide them in the right direction and understand what the student is capable of doing on certain tasks. It would only benefit the teacher to know so she could work on her skills to provide better teaching skills on her part for the students.

ISTE Standards:

#2 Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

d. provide students with mulitple and varied formative and summative assessments
aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform
learning and teaching.

Learning Styles

There are seven learning styles traits to choose from: I believe my first style would be: Physical, I am a hands-on learner. I think my actually performing the work you can learn quicker and absorb the material a lot faster. Second choice would be: Visual, looking at what needs to be done can show you how to accomplish the work. Next, social, sometimes it helps when others are in a group and you can work together on a project. Get everyones ideas is very helpful instead of working alone.
I don't think I've ever taken a learning style tests that I can remember.

Snipping Tool

My computer does not come with the snipping tool. If I could use the tool I would cut out a image of the proper way of dribbling a basketball. Placing the right hand form on the ball, where you should be looking, and you move.

Voice Thread

I created my voice thread account. Very interesting tool to come across to add comments to various things you create. For the invite from Dr. Pierce I typed my comment in instead of doing a voice action. A voice thread experiment lasting for 30 seconds, a brief bio of yourself and what are your interests and teaching experience if any and what are your plans for the future? It was very interesting to hear and read all the comments from the students from the class. I liked it because its all on one page and you don't have to click in and out of it like the discussions we have to read back and forth. Its also nice to see a picture of everyone, get an idea of who everyone looks like.
What ISTE NETS T would you consider this activity most closely matches and why?
#1 Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

d. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning
with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.

Learning Outcomes:

1. What is a VoiceThread and how can they be used in any learning enterprise?

It is a collaborative, multimedia slideshow that holds images, documents, and videos, and allows people to navigate pages and leave comments in five ways- using voice, text, audio file, or video (via webcam).

Google Reader/Google Profile

I have created my Google Profile, which was a very easy step by step process to follow. Google Reader page you can find here.

Looking through all the blogs I have decided to follow the one called: Look at my happy rainbow. He talks about his journey through kindergarten. The second I chose was School Food Matters. I am interested in finding out more about this new program they just launched called CHEW, children eating well by Caroline Walker. When you click on this is starts you from birth to ages up to 18. Both should be interesting to follow throughout the semester and find out some new information.

Learning outcomes:

1. What is a blog syndication and how does it differ from your previous strategies for information gathering? You can syndicate your blog content for free or you can earn money by syndicating your cotent through an ad-supported blog syndication service. There are three types of syndication: free, ad and licensed. Depending on how well written your blog is. Only syndicate your content through services that meet your short term and long term blogging objectives.

2. What does RSS stand for? Really simply syndication

Personality Test

After taking the personality test the results came back and recognized me as Guardian, which I also picked first in my first blog.

Guardian, Idealists, Rational, and Artisan

2. How can awareness of personal characteristics improve performance in a learning environment?
Knowing what traits you have can definelty improve your performance in a learning environment cause you can pass along those traits to someone else and help them learn what you been taught.

Personality Profile

I would catergorize myself as: guardian, idealists, artisan, and rational after reading the different descriptions.

I would definelty would recognize myself most with the guardian temperment because I share a lot of the qualities it has mentioned. I have always worked hard to get where I am today, and I am very independent. I am a parent of three children who I strive to make their life happy and their environments safe as possible. Trying to make sure what is the best for them is not always an easy task but if I take it day by day we will survive in this crazy world we live in today.
